How I Interpret Justice
As the blog is about Justice (and climate change); I should explain what I mean about Justice. The equal respect of all human beings regardless of any personal characteristic is the foundation of Justice. John Rawls stated, “Therefore in a just society the liberties of equal citizenship are taken as settled; the rights secured by justice are not subject to political bargaining or to the calculus of social interests” (Rawls yr, 3-4).
To put that simple; a society is just when every member enjoys equal human rights. I consider the entire world to be our society, so we live in an unjust world. Justice is something that exists as a fundamental truth; all human beings are equally valuable. Human rights exist whether or not they have been realised; they eventually become so self-evident that they can no longer be ignored. As I continue to write, I will expand upon this, but I wanted to post what I plan to write about.
I am currently researching climate refugee status and the need for it to receive official legal status in international law.
